A bit of history
Ferguson House, built in 1957 stands on the site of one of Charles Dickens's favourite houses which he occupied from 1839 to 1851.
A huge panel sculpted by Estcourt J Clack (known as Jim) commemorates some of the characters. Left to right, top line: Scrooge, (the head with the door knocker represents Marley's ghost) Barnaby Rudge, Little Nell and Granddad, middle line: Dombey and daughter, Mrs. Gamp, bottom line: David Copperfield, Mr. Micawber. And the large head is Dickens's own. Credit London Remembers.com
Project in depth
This particular project was very multifaceted, both in its design and use. Tenants would remain in the building during the refurbishment of all 6 floors, so logistics and detailed phasing became the most important factor.
Starting with the offices, we refurbished four floors as a CAT B including bespoke joinery, furniture, kitchen and lockers throughout for tenants. The other floors were finished as a CAT A, ready for specialist installations by the NHS.
Our focus then turned in full to the reception, which included new entry systems, high spec M&E, bespoke fittings and desk area. These works coincided with a lift refurbishment that added additional access to the new fully fitted GP Surgery in the basement which was the final part of the project.
